pronouns are linguistic tools used to refer to people (i.e. he/him/his, she/her/hers, they/them/theirs), but they are also the preferred gender pronouns that we choose to identify ourselves. Valuing terminology only expands our understanding and respect for people’s gender identities and how they express themselves. We humans categorize each other as a way to describe and assign differences – race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. To complicate matters, the English language is constantly evolving, and word choices are increasingly important especially in the LGBTQ community. This exhibition celebrates differences, whether gender identity or experiences, and giving people the title they themselves adopt.
